18th Birthday Voter Registration

My daughter is now 28 and has a few elections under her belt now.
On her 18th birthday, just in time for the 2012 Presidential election, I provided her the same thing my mom provided me on my 18th birthday: her voter registration card.
I wrapped it with her other birthday gifts and just like my mom did with me, I walked her through filling it out for the first time.
I will do this for each of my kids on their 18th birthday as my mom did with me. Learning the process to register, how to do your research and make informed decisions is a part of parenting that is really important as we launch our children into the adult world.
My daughter is an amazing woman. She is a fierce, independent thinker. I am so proud of her and I am so proud of her generation who walk through this world with confidence, strength and most of all compassion for others.
Mi hija tiene ahora 28 años y ya tiene unas cuantas elecciones en su haber.
En su 18º cumpleaños, justo a tiempo para las elecciones presidenciales de 2012, le di lo mismo que me dio mi madre en mi 18º cumpleaños: su tarjeta de registro de votante.
La envolví con sus otros regalos de cumpleaños y, al igual que hizo mi madre conmigo, la acompañé a rellenarla por primera vez.
Haré esto para cada uno de mis hijos en su 18º cumpleaños como mi madre hizo conmigo. Aprender el proceso de registro, cómo investigar y tomar decisiones informadas es una parte de la crianza que es realmente importante cuando lanzamos a nuestros hijos al mundo de los adultos.
Mi hija es una mujer increíble. Es una pensadora feroz e independiente. Estoy muy orgullosa de ella y de su generación, que camina por este mundo con confianza, fuerza y, sobre todo, compasión por los demás.
